Independent Motala Hissar lift service across the UK.

BASE provides independent UK service, repair and parts for Motala Hissar platform lifts — the Motala 2000 public-building platform lift and the Motala 6000 ultra-compact residential lift. Motala Hissar is the Swedish low-speed accessibility specialist behind the patented Guided Chain drive, and our engineers are trained on it, with 24/7 response UK-wide.

"Largest inside, smallest outside" — Motala's leading concept since 1982, and the reason a Motala 6000 fits where almost no other compliant platform lift will. We service the engineering that makes that possible.

What does a BASE Motala contract cover?

Motala's range is small by design — two products, one drive philosophy. That means a Motala maintenance contract is engineering, not procurement. The table below is the floor of what every BASE engagement covers. For a unit-specific quote, the only honest answer is a site survey.

LOLER thorough examination cadence — set by usage and risk profile

Every BASE engineer is trained to NVQ Level 3 or higher and works to LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998, and the BS EN 81-41 platform-lift standard that Motala's range is engineered to. We are SafeContractor-approved members (CN8516) and the engineering team is audited annually. For mixed-use buildings we extend the same compliance posture to the passenger lift sitting next to the Motala car.

Other platform brands we service

Motala Hissar is one of eleven platform-lift makes BASE covers as an independent UK specialist. Portfolios that mix a Motala 2000 with a Cibes, an Aritco, or a Dalby Glide can run on a single consolidated contract.

Motala Hissar — common questions

What facilities and accessibility teams ask before they switch.

Which Motala Hissar models do you service?
Both production models — the Motala 2000 platform lift (for low-rise public buildings and accessibility installations) and the Motala 6000 compact lift (the most compact shaft solution on the market, typically retrofitted into existing residential multi-family buildings under the EU Lifts Directive). Where a building runs both a Motala platform unit and a passenger lift, we cover the pair on a single contract.
Do you know the Guided Chain drive system?
Yes. Our engineers are trained on the patented Motala Guided Chain — the chain-confined-to-track drive that is the defining engineering choice of the 2000 series. We service the chain track, tension, end terminations, and the safety circuit that holds the car on the chain in the rare event of a break. The drive is engineered for a 25-year service life with lifetime-greased gearing; our job is to keep it inside that envelope, not to replace it prematurely.
Are you tied to Motala Hissar or independent?
Fully independent. We are not a Motala channel partner, not a reseller, and we do not earn commission on new-unit sales. We can take over a Motala maintenance contract from any provider — including the manufacturer's own UK service network — and migrate the documentation and inspection history without disrupting the LOLER trail. Independence is what makes us free to recommend Motala when it is the right answer, and to recommend against it when it is not.
How fast can a Motala Hissar engineer attend a stranded lift?
For 24/7 emergency call-outs in London and the M25 corridor, same-day dispatch — usually within hours. UK-wide we triage by region and priority. Call 020 3435 6838 to speak to an engineer directly; there is no automated phone tree. Most accessibility installations are running in care homes, schools, and residential blocks where a stranded lift is a safeguarding issue, not just an inconvenience — we treat it that way.
Can you source Motala spare parts in the UK?
Yes. As an independent specialist with cross-Europe supplier relationships, we hold immediate access to Motala 2000 and 6000 parts — Guided Chain drive components, control PCBs, door interlocks, safety circuits, and finishing trim. Fast-moving consumables come from van-stock; specialist components are sourced direct from Sweden. Downtime stays low because the parts conversation is settled before the engineer arrives.
Do you cover passenger lifts as well, or only Motala platform units?
Both. BASE is a platform-led specialist with a dedicated passenger-lift engineering team. Many buildings that run a Motala Hissar low-speed platform also run a traction or hydraulic passenger lift — mixed-use residential blocks, care home estates, and commercial buildings in particular. One contract, one engineer relationship, one LOLER cycle.

Reading this from a sector angle? Motala Hissar installations feature heavily in care home and accessibility estates, residential blocks, and commercial accessibility retrofits across our UK coverage.

Take over a Motala contract

We'll survey your Motala 2000 or 6000 and write you a clean SLA.

Whether you've inherited a single Motala platform lift on a care home corridor or you're consolidating accessibility and passenger lifts across a multi-site estate, start with a survey. A senior engineer attends, the proposal arrives in writing within 48 hours, and the contract transition is paperwork — not downtime.

Or email enquiries@baselifts.co.uk — quote "Motala" in the subject line for routing to the platform-lift desk.
