What lifts does BASE service across the UK?

BASE services both platform lifts and passenger lifts, independently of any manufacturer. Platform lifts cover accessibility and low-rise use — Aritco, Cibes, Stannah, Gartec, Kalea and 30+ other UK brands. Passenger lifts cover offices, residential and mixed-use buildings — Otis, Kone, Schindler, ThyssenKrupp, Orona, Mitsubishi and most other makes. One engineering standard, two dedicated teams.

Two disciplines, one standard

Platform lifts is where we started.
Passenger lifts is where we grew.

BASE was founded as a platform-lift specialist — small accessibility lifts for care homes, listed buildings, schools and accessible private homes. That focused decade built our service standard. Today we apply the same standard to passenger lifts, with a dedicated passenger-lift engineering team covering traction and hydraulic systems across commercial, residential, and mixed-use buildings.

Our heritage discipline

Platform lifts

Platform lifts for accessibility, wheelchair access, and low-rise vertical transport. Independent service for every major UK brand — Aritco, Cibes, Stannah, Gartec, Kalea, Dalby, Motala, Nami, NTD, Phoenix, Pollock, Vimec and more. Service contracts, parts sourcing, modernisation and full replacements.

  • BS EN 81-41 compliant
  • LOLER 12-monthly cycle
  • Typical travel up to 3m

Our expanded discipline

Passenger lifts

Passenger lifts for offices, residential blocks, retail, hospitality and mixed-use buildings. Independent service for Otis, Kone, Schindler, ThyssenKrupp, Orona, Mitsubishi, Stannah, and most other manufacturers — including takeovers from OEM contracts where you'd rather have a real engineering team than a call centre.

  • BS EN 81-20 compliant
  • LOLER 6-monthly cycle

The mechanism

Two opposing weights.
One precise system.

Every passenger lift balances a counterweight against the cab — typically 40–50% of rated load plus the cab's own mass. The system runs on steel ropes through a sheave at the top of the shaft, with guide rails keeping both halves of the system aligned to fractions of a millimetre.

Platform lifts work differently — screw, chain, or hydraulic drive without a counterweight, sized for low travel and accessibility duty. Servicing both well means understanding both. Our engineers train across the full installed base, not a manufacturer's subset.

What we do

Service contracts, installations, modernisation, and emergency response — for both lift types.

Maintenance & service contracts

Defined visit schedules, defined response SLAs, defined inclusions, and a quarterly written report. No surprise invoices. Available for both platform and passenger lifts.

New installations

Specification-first installations from survey to handover. Platform lifts for accessibility projects and passenger lifts for new builds, refurbishments and replacements.

Modernisation & refurbishment

Bringing existing lifts up to current safety and accessibility standards. Often the right answer when a full replacement isn't justified — we'll tell you when that's the case.

Repair & emergency response

24/7 emergency call-out across London and the M25. Most faults fixed on the first visit. UK-wide repair coverage scheduled by region and priority.

No manufacturer ties

Independent means the advice you get is the advice you need.

Lift manufacturers have a commercial reason to recommend new lifts. We don't. BASE is a fully independent service company — no tied OEM contracts, no parts mark-ups paid back to a supplier, no incentive to oversell. When modernisation will keep your lift running for another decade, we'll tell you. When replacement is genuinely the right answer, we'll tell you that too — and we'll specify the right unit for the building rather than the one with the best dealer rebate.

The same independence applies to brand coverage. We service forty-plus platform and passenger lift makes, and we don't get to pick which lift sits in your shaft — your building does. So we trained engineers across the whole installed base, not just on the brands a manufacturer told us to learn.

  • No OEM tie-ins

No tied parts contracts. No commission-led recommendations.

  • Cross-brand expertise

Engineers trained across forty-plus platform and passenger brands.

  • OEM takeovers

We take over OEM service contracts (Otis, Kone, Schindler) where the incumbent isn't delivering.

If your lift isn't listed, call us. We've worked on most UK-installed makes regardless of age or model. Replacement parts sourced independently — original-equivalent components where the OEM has discontinued supply.

Our process

How a BASE service contract works.

01

Site survey

A senior engineer inspects every lift in the building, reads the existing service history (where available), and confirms compliance status against BS EN 81 and LOLER requirements.

  • Senior engineer on-site
  • Compliance baseline
  • Existing history audit
02

Written proposal

You receive a clear written proposal with visit schedule, response SLAs, parts inclusion or exclusion stated explicitly, out-of-hours rates, and a fixed annual price. No moving parts other than the lift.

  • Inside 48 hours
  • Fixed annual price
  • No surprise invoices
03

Onboarding

We take over from the incumbent provider with no service gap. All existing maintenance documentation is migrated. Engineers are introduced to the building's access procedures on day one.

  • Zero service gap
  • Documentation migrated
  • Access procedures briefed
04

Quarterly reporting

A written quarterly report covering every visit, every fault, every part replaced, and the lift's compliance position against next-inspection-due. Plain English, not spreadsheet dumps.

  • Every visit logged
  • Every part recorded
  • Next-due flagged
Built around the standards

Compliance, written down.

Every engineer at BASE is trained to NVQ Level 3+ and works to the current BS EN 81 series, LOLER 1998, and SaFed reporting standards. SafeContractor approved (CN8516), audited annually.

Common questions

What people ask before they book a survey.

Are you really independent, or tied to a manufacturer?
Fully independent. We have no tied OEM contracts and no parts arrangements that pay us back from a supplier. We service every major platform and passenger lift brand, and the advice you get is based on what your lift actually needs.
Do you cover both platform and passenger lifts?
Yes. Our management team and Technical Director have approaching four decades of combined experience across platform and passenger lift engineering. BASE runs two dedicated engineering teams — one platform-led, one passenger-trained — covering traction and hydraulic systems across commercial, residential, and mixed-use buildings.
Can you take over a contract from an OEM (Otis, Kone, Schindler)?
Yes, and we do it regularly. Independent service is legal and almost always faster and more cost-effective than staying with the original manufacturer. We migrate all documentation, inspect every lift, and write a clean SLA-backed contract from there.
How fast can an engineer be on site?
For 24/7 emergency call-outs in London and the surrounding M25, same-day dispatch — usually within hours. UK-wide emergency response is scheduled by region and priority. Phone us on 020 3435 6838 to triage.
Which lift brands do you service?
Platform: Aritco, Cibes, Dalby, Gartec, Kalea, Motala, Nami, NTD, Phoenix, Pollock, Stannah, Vimec and most other UK-installed brands. Passenger: Otis, Kone, Schindler, ThyssenKrupp, Orona, Mitsubishi, Stannah and most major UK manufacturers. If your make isn't listed, call us — chances are we've worked on it.
Are your engineers properly qualified?
Every engineer is trained to NVQ Level 3 or higher and works to BS EN 81-20, BS EN 81-41, LOLER 1998, and SaFed-aligned reporting standards. We're a SafeContractor-approved business (member CN8516) and the team is health-and-safety audited annually.
What does a maintenance contract typically cost?
Every contract is priced from a site survey, not a price list. The number depends on the lift type, visit frequency, response SLA, parts inclusion, and portfolio size. We'll send a written proposal with a fixed annual figure inside 48 hours of the survey.
Where would you tell us to look elsewhere?
Very large national portfolios with hundreds of lifts and a dedicated in-house lift team are sometimes better served by a national contractor at scale. We're transparent about scale — if you'd get more value elsewhere, we'll say so.
